We all remember this haunting shot in which hundreds of gallons of blood pours out of an elevator:
Stanley Kubrick, known for his compulsiveness and numerous retakes, took nearly a year to get it right. Though it only took three takes and over nine days to set up the shot. Every time the doors opened and the blood poured out, Kubrick would say “it doesn’t look like blood”.
Due to restrictions by the MPAA at the time, filmmakers were not allowed to show any blood in the trailers of their movies. Kubrick was able to get away with his trailer convincing them it was only “rusty water” and not blood.
