Special mention to the tv show Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997 -2003)

maxresdefaultInto every generation a slayer is born: one girl in all the world, a chosen one. She alone will wield the strength and skill to fight the darkness.
The show was a metaphor for female empowerment, the women roles were strong and some of the men were “feminized”, they were the ones in need of rescue. Joss Whedon the creator of the series says he “designed Buffy to be an icon, not just a TV show”.
