“The Art of Hammer” by Marcus Hearn
“The Art of Hammer” provides a fascinating collection of 28 years of the studio’s promotional poster art, covering their most iconic horror movies to the less known comedies or war flicks. There’s over 300 posters from around the world, France, Belgium, Italy, Japan… After a brief introduction we are presented with the book artwork, categorized into three time periods, 1950-1959, 1960-1969, and 1970-1979. This includes half-sheets, subway posters, one-sheets and window cards. The array of poster and promotional art is amazing but lacks some commentaries or a more detailed description to enrich the experience.
This book is a feast for the eyes and a comprehensive collection of the Hammer art, showing their artwork evolution trough the years. This is a must-have for all Hammer fans and for all horror devotees in general!
