Surrealist Artist H.R. Giger Dies at 74

9“My paintings seem to make the strongest impression on people who are, well, who are crazy,” Giger said in a 1979 interview with Starlog magazine. “If they like my work they are creative … or they are crazy.”

Swiss artist, Academy Award Winner (Alien), H.R. Giger, has died at age 74 from injuries suffered in a fall, his museum said Tuesday.
Meticulously detailed, Giger’s surrealist paintings were usually produced in large formats and then reworked with an airbrush and usually feature scenes of humans and machines fused together.
His art is not for people with weak nerves. Critic Fritz Billeter once wrote that Giger’s work was “loaded with eroticism tending often towards the shocking and the sadistic” and sometimes taking the form of an “orgiastic cult”.

RIP, H.R. Giger
