Suburban Seattle, the mid-1970s. A strange plague, called “the Bug”, has descended upon the area’s teenagers, transmitted by sexual contact, turning their bodies into mutated monstrosities.
This is an amazing and trippy coming of age story, about first sex and teenage dilemmas. The book perfectly capture the feelings and anxieties all teenagers go trough. The artwork is astounding, filled with eerie and psychedelically-charged black and white illustrations, completely appropriate to the story and the feel of alienation. This is an amazing piece of writing and art, and one of the most intriguing graphic novels, ever.
BLACK HOLE is not a book for everyone, it is frightening, nightmarish, beautiful, surreal, written in a way that is so believable yet truly imaginative.
